"Reading the Rhythm"

The children are very familiar with Resting their voices and instruments when they hear me say; "Ready rest"....so we will advance now to learning to SEE it on the musical staff.  We will spend a lot of time preparing for our upcoming Friendship Festival and learning songs to sing, but we will start learning about how to use the quarter note and quarter rest concepts within the songs we sing.

"Quarter Note"

We will learn that this symbol is a quarter note, and that it will get one beat in our rhythm.

"Quarter Rest"

We will learn that this symbol, which we have already learned as "ready rest" is called a "Quarter Rest" in music, and means that we stop singing or playing for one beat in our rhythm.
