We will learn that the word RHYTHM in music means; "A steady even beat"
At this stage of the year, the students are quite comfortable with me and their classmates. They get very excited for music time and want to REALLY have fun...it is only natural for them to want to sing fast (sometimes very fast!) at this point to impress me! So adding some more control to their singing voices, and instrument playing only helps them to develop an even greater sense of accomplishment. When I ask them what "RHYTHM" is, we chant in a steady beat; "A stea-dy e-ven beat..a stea-dy e-ven beat..a stea-dy e-ven beat"......the children love to chant this, so try it at home with them! This gives us a doorway to the rhythm of the song that we will start singing to, whether it is fast (allegro) or slow (andante.)
"Allegro"
We will learn that the word Allegro means a FAST rhythm in music, much like running in a race!
"Andante"
We will learn that the word Andante means a SLOW rhythm in music...much like taking a slow stroll through the snow with a little dog!
